In heavy industry, a machine that runs indefinitely is a machine that will eventually catastrophically fail. To prevent this, and to keep the machine from killing the operator during repair, we use a procedure called "Lock Out / Tag Out." We deliberately cut the power. We place a physical lock on the switch. We force the system to reach a zero-energy state.
In our spiritual lives, we view rest as a defect. We treat sleep as a weakness and a Sabbath as a loss of productivity. We think that if we stop, we are failing.
But God designed the human engine with a mandatory maintenance cycle.
Mark 2:27 clarifies the design intent:
"The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath."
The Sabbath isn't a rule created to restrict you; it is a safety protocol installed to protect you. It is God’s "Lock Out" procedure for your soul. It cuts the power to your striving so that you can be repaired without the work killing you.
Stopping isn't quitting. It’s the only way to ensure you can start again tomorrow.
