The Treasure We Project: Understanding 'Out of the Abundance of the Heart the Mouth Speaks' (Matthew 12:34)

The Treasure We Project

"For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things." — Matthew 12:34-35

This verse is a brutal assessment of our character. Our words are rarely spontaneous—they are simply the unavoidable outflow of the inventory stored deep within us. The mouth is just the projector; the heart is the treasure box.

The Two Treasures

This design explicitly visualizes the two choices for our inner storage. On the left is the Evil Treasure: a dark, spiky, fragmented half-sphere of chaos. When the heart holds cynicism, bitterness, and sin, the output is sharp, jagged, and destructive. The red lightning bolt and dark shards show the violence that comes forth.

On the right is the Good Treasure: a bright, organized, golden half-sphere. When the heart is centered on truth and grace, the output is life-giving. This half projects a golden branch with flourishing leaves and ribbons of clear water. The output is fruit, not fragments.

The Ejection Mechanism

Jesus makes it clear: the words we speak are not accidents; they are projections of our abundance. Our focus often lands on trying to control the output (the harsh words, the lies). But the solution is never in managing the mouth; it is in changing the storage.

If we are consistently projecting chaos, it is proof that we have accumulated a treasure of internal disorder. We must stop trying to patch the output and go directly to the source.

The Great Divide

The visual tension where the light and darkness clash is the reality of our daily existence. Our words draw a clear, dividing line, publicly revealing which treasure we are building. The constant spiritual work is allowing the Holy Spirit to empty the vault of its evil abundance and replace it with the good treasure of the Kingdom.

What we project is what we are. The design asks us to stop controlling the symptom and start changing the substance.
