The Surrender of the Mind: Meaning of Proverbs 3:5 ('Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart')

 

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." — Proverbs 3:5-6

This proverb is deceptively simple. It sounds like a gentle suggestion, but it is, in fact, a radical command for total cognitive and emotional surrender. It asks us to give up the one thing we cling to most fiercely: our own sense of understanding and control.

The Offering of the Heart

At the center of the design, two large hands are gently, yet firmly, holding a fragmented heart. This heart, made of various geometric pieces, represents our own complex, often broken, inner world.
