There is a specific, hollow sound an engine makes when it is out of fuel but you keep turning the key. It is the sound of denial. You think that if you just crank it hard enough, if you just force the starter to spin one more time, the engine will catch.
But mechanics doesn't care about your desperation. If the tank is dry, the spark has nothing to ignite.
We do this with our souls. We run until we are emotionally and spiritually empty, and then we try to force ourselves to function. We try to grind out more patience, more ministry, or more creativity. We just keep cranking the key.
But you cannot crank your way out of empty. Continued effort without fuel isn't resilience; it's destruction. You are just draining the battery and burning out the starter.
Isaiah 40:29 reminds us where the fuel comes from:
"He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak."
You cannot generate your own fuel. You have to stop the car. You have to cease the striving. You have to let the Father refill the tank.
Stop cranking. It’s not a mechanical failure; it’s a fuel problem.
